Baked Camembert Recipe – The Simple and Tasty Way

Note – This article was written before I went dairy-free.

Camembert left in a fridge for ages stinks. Planning to eat Camembert when your partner keeps complaining about the funk is quite difficult (yes, first world problems!).

The turn-around between buying and devouring Camembert has to be quite short. The easiest, yet deliciously satisfying, way to enjoy Camembert is baked it with some garlic, herbs, spices and a touch of oil.

Camembert Boxed

Camembert is lovely to enjoy with breadsticks or rustic loaf. If you are anything like me, you will happily gorge into the gooey goodness with olives, cucumbers, with a spoon. Heck, even just fingers will do.

Yes, I am that bad.

The essential steps to bake the perfect gooey Camembert.

  • Camembert
  • 1 clove Garlic
  • Sea Salt
  • Virgin Olive Oil
  • Black Pepper optional
  • Rosemary optional


  1. Take out your Camembert from the fridge ahead of time and leave on the counter for at least 30 minutes.

  2. Pre-heat the oven to 180ºC.

  3. Remove all the packaging from your Camembert and return it to its box. Leave the lid off.

  4. Score the Camembert 1/2cm from the edge, around the top and carefully remove the skin layer. 

  5. Secretly enjoy while eating the top skin layer.

  6. Slice the garlic clove and poke the slivers into the top of the Camembert.

  7. Drizzle a small bit of olive oil on top of the Camembert and add a pinch of sea salt.

  8. Optionally, add a pinch of black pepper and some rosemary into the Camembert.

  9. Place into the pre-heated oven for 15 to 20 minutes til oozy in the middle.

  10. Enjoy with bread, olives, or more cheese.
